Impingement Syndrome
Impingement syndrome, also commonly known as shoulder bursitis and rotator cuff tendonitis, is one of the most common conditions seen by shoulder specialists. It involves an irritation and inflammation of the area between the roof of the shoulder (acromion) and the rotator cuff. It can be caused by overuse, injury, or sometimes the cause is unknown. This condition can in most cases be effectively treated with appropriate medications, lifestyle adjustment, rehabilitative services, and occasionally injections. In some situations, the condition can be refractory to treatment and may require surgical attention.Â
