Distal Biceps & Triceps Injuries
The distal biceps tendon helps bend the elbow and turn the palm upward. The triceps tendon helps straighten the elbow. A sudden force, fall, or heavy lift can cause a partial or complete tendon tear.
Symptoms
Symptoms may include a sudden pop, pain, swelling, bruising, or weakness when bending, straightening, or rotating the arm. A change in muscle shape or a gap near the tendon may also be noticeable.
Evaluation and treatment
Dr. Davies evaluates the injury and may recommend ultrasound or MRI when needed. Treatment depends on the tendon involved, the size of the tear, and your strength and activity needs. Some injuries can be managed with protection and rehabilitation; others need timely surgical assessment. Seek an appointment promptly after a suspected tear.
